Spanish Dance

Can you feel movement in this one?

I felt incredibly connected to Spain, particularly the Costa Brava region, and to the stretch of coastline that continues into the French Riviera.

There was so much art around us. Texture. Textiles. Ancient walls. Earth tones interrupted by intense color. Music spilling into the experience of a place.

This painting holds some of that for me. I can feel the dancing in it. Flamenco. Sangria. Seaside air. Valencia oranges. Music. Picasso, Degas. Layers of old and new existing together.

I incorporated a piece of linen directly into the painting because I wanted some of that textile quality to physically become part of its surface.
